Filibustering

Ever since Jimmie Stewart made the well know movie Mr. Smith goes to Washington, some of our legislators think its to their benefit to use this method to get what they want.  Rand Paul, the latest.  What did he prove?  He proved he likes to be in the limelight and he's desperate to allow honest votes not to be cast.  If his thinking warrants a majority vote, then it will happen.  He doesn't need to waste everyone's time and our money.  Let's not play games with our Country and people..............................marge

    ,,J L,, soap box moments…
Below, a friend of mine has a blog and she wrote: (see below)… but it made me think and after watching “the View” yesterday, I can say I’m a little scared about rand paul thingy and what he wants: to stop illegal spying…

Well… to the average american, we have nothing to hide… if they want to listen in on my phone conversation, so be it… they will get bored…maybe even get a few laughs out of it… if they want to spy on my emails, same thing… they will get bored… what they will find are people that want to do harm to us… then they can follow them because of illegal spying… look at the people they have traced because of that… do I mind??? Absolutely not… rand paul is putting more fear into our lives for no reason… he feels he has a better solution, me thinkst naught… in these times of so much unrest, we need to do what is best for our country and our people… he’s grandstanding… jimmy stewart would not be happy over that… he’s stopping what is necessary for our country… that is wrong… period… if by surveilling everyone, big drug dealers could be caught and off the streets or isis recruitings could be halted, bravo!!! if we stopped people with isis affliations before actually going, more power to our government… president bush jr. had this act law for a reason, and that reason is protest us from all the bullies…

Look, if he came up with an idea that was good, had a solution that would work, fine… but he didn’t and doesn’t… he wants less government involvement but putting our safety at risk, NO WAY!!! I love living in america… I love that we feel safe and that our government is looking out for us… if we need to be spied on, so be it… I would rather have that, than have terrorists running around, trying to strike again against innocent people doing their jobs… my heart sinks every time I think of all the people that died on 9-11… we came together as a country to fight against terrorism… rand paul thinks differently… and I totally disagree with him… spy on me all you want… I don’t care… just keep me safe… that’s all I ask…

(Republicans, furious at Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky), are accusing him of jeopardizing national security to further his presidential campaign.
Paul used Senate procedure to successfully — and temporarily — block the chamber's push to renew parts of the Patriot Act on Sunday.
This caused three sections of the controversial surveillance bill, including the National Security Agency's bulk records-collection program, to expire early Monday morning.
Needless to say, GOP senators who believe the NSA needs robust powers are not pleased. Politico documented many of their gripes.
"I know what this is about — I think it's very clear – this is, to some degree, a fundraising exercise," Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) said. "He obviously has a higher priority for his fundraising and political ambitions than for the security of the nation."
Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nevada) further accused Paul of theatrics last month, when the Kentucky senator launched a 10-1/2-hour filibuster that stalled the NSA bill.
"He could only raise money filibustering," Heller was quoted as saying.
Even Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky), who has endorsed Paul's presidential campaign, accused the bill's critics of waging a "campaign of demagoguery and disinformation," according to The New York Times.]
