Stink? What's your definition?
Recently, in another town, an older, homeless man was removed From a McDonald's by the police. I am unable to find out which of three departments it was. The address is 200 Beck Rd. at Pontiac Trail. I, rightly or wrongly assume it was at the request of the manager. That would certainly save face for the manager wouldn't it? I've heard it was because the man didn't have on the cleanest clothes or smell that nice. Perhaps either or both? He bought and ate lunch with other noon regulars. Have you ever been in any store where the men smell like several bottles of cologne accidentally spilled on them? I have. Too many times. They take your breath away and not in a nice way. Need I say which I prefer would be removed by the police, the slightly 'unclean' one or the ones leaving me gasping for fresh air? The gentleman sat under the nearby Kroger overhang as it was raining. I was told he was crying. It is another day and he is still there. I have called the Novi and Walled Lake police and the Oakland County Sheriffs Dept. None were able to help me. What a wonderful, kind world we live in..................................marge

Smoke and Mirrors
How do these companies promising beauty galore get away with it? I'm not a camera genius but come on people. Get real. Can you not see the ever so slight camera angle change? Move in a little, back off some with the camera. And of course, the lighting. The darker the image, the uglier the face (and neck) appear. Increasing the lighting in itself removes many 'wrinkles'. The best perhaps is the pulling in of the chin. That really gives one a 'turkey neck'. Alternately, gently jutting the chin out, raising the head slightly, with more lighting cures many visible ills. Ah perfect. Now go buy that 'wonderful', probably expensive product...................................marge

Birmingham 'Citizens for Responsible Government'
I received an anonymous political letter this week from a group who refer to themselves as 'Citizens for Responsible Government'. We who wanted the Bond issue for our Public Library are now, by this group, being referred to as the 'Gang'. And, some candidates are now also being accused of attempting to 'sweep away any remaining barriers to unrestrained commercial development.' Yes. Birmingham is unique and its the openly named residents who want to make it even better. Your statements seem to be confusing at best. Could or would you kindly tell us who you are and what your agenda is? We don't hide. Why are you? Sincerely, just one of the 'gang'.............................marge

Halloween
We grownups (sorta), should be included in 'Trick or Treating' or as we called it, 'Help the poor'! Age shouldn't matter. Its about going around the neighborhood and having a good time. I never connected it up to 'religion' so not to worry. How about a small paper cup of coffee or a 'good piece' of chocolate? I promise not to be too fussy. No caramels for us 'older' ones please. The long ago gold crowns just can't handle them I'm sorry to say.. I'm being good this year and passing out 'salty stuff' and yes, I don't mind teenagers at all. They're just as much fun as the little ones and also staying out of trouble in case anyone worries about them. I'm ready for the big night! Bring it on!......................................marge

Detroit Lions
Every time I leave the room for a few minutes, the Lions get another touchdown against them. I must now decide, do I stay in the living room for the whole game (not easy as I do have to get my coffee) or do I not turn on the game at all? Oh which is better? Sigh............................marge

Birmingham Library Extravaganza
I have the greatest respect for The Birmingham Baldwin Library, its Director, Associate Director, The Library Board Members and those paid and volunteer workers. I do however, have a problem with the new and higher cost to attend the Extravaganza this November. Many younger and older families from Birmingham and nearby towns use this facility. It is a lifeline for them. Contrary to popular belief, not everyone can 'pop' $75 or $150 to attend. The library did well at $50. Why not keep the ticket price there? We can't show off our wonderful library if anyone is kept away because of the cost. To those who upped it, please reconsider.................................marge
