Selfish and more selfish

Thanks to all you last minute just for the amusement of it, Christmas shoppers.  You've made many CEO'S and executives extremely happy.  They get their gawd awful end of year bonuses yet again.  Never mind the lowly hourly workers who won't be home with their families Christmas Eve and Day at a decent hour.  Your selfish self gratification is more important.  If any store can't financially survive unless they stay open beyond reasonable hours in the holiday season, maybe they shouldn't survive at all.  Coal in their socks to the 'bonus' receivers................marge

Something has to change

Remember the phrase 'law abiding' this is important.  It is spoken of when the NRA and others refer to those whom they feel should be allowed to own and carry a weapon(s)  in public.  Notice please,  they do not repeatedly say 'normal', 'sane' individuals.  They say 'law abiding'.  No, I do not know the numbers, but how many of these mass killers were considered 'law abiding' before they committed these horrific acts.  Many weapons were stolen, but the perpetrators, until the shootings,  were apparently 'law abiding'.  Now then, maybe the NRA should have the responsibility of choosing those 'law abiding' persons who want to carry a weapon.  They can form a board to be totally in charge with total responsibility of these gun carriers and future gun carriers.  The one and only self rule the NRA board members must (no exceptions) adhere to is as follows.  They, the 'Board' must share the punishment of any apprehended and convicted  'law abiding ' shooter who hurts, maims or kills another human being.  If they truly believe they are right, then I say, "step up to the plate and prove it".................marge

Tree lighting followup

My apologies for the delay in telling all about the Charlie Brown tree lighting ceremony in my front yard.  It was held at 6:15 p.m. the night before Thanksgiving 15 minutes AFTER the lovely City of Birmingham Mi lit its $30,000 plastic tree.  A throng of people attended, three neighbors/friends and myself.  Albeit, a small 'throng'.  The oohs and ahs could be heard for many feet.  My thanks to all who attended......... Twas a most special night.....................marge   

auto designs, parking lots, idiots..

Its time something was said to A.  Car designers and B.  Idiots walking in parking lots.   For quite a few years now,  the in 'thing' about cars, is the 'high rear end, low front end and slanted rear windows'.  Do the designers not realize how difficult they've made it for most to see people behind their cars, even when using the rear view mirror, side mirror and turning the head when backing out of a space?  Now, on to the idiots  in large mall type parking areas.  They put BACKUP LIGHTS on the cars for a REASON!  Duh, its to warn you of danger!  It is NOT, I repeat NOT so you can see if you can beat the backing up car, or worse, letting your children watch you play this game!  If you are stupid enough to do this, then you must accept the consequences of losing.  You are outweighed by a few thousand pounds.  You don't stand a chance.  Give it some thought.  Really.....................marge

more pickles please...

FYI.  I called two McDs and one Burger King.  On the regular size hamburger, McDonald's puts ONE pickle,  Burger King said they put on TWO.  Guess I'll go to our old standby in Birmingham Mi, 'The Hunter House'!  They put at least two pickles and more if requested on their hamburgers, at NO EXTRA CHARGE!  I know, they cost a little more, but they're perhaps a might bigger, tasty and worth it!................marge

Graphic photos. Really?

Israel and Gaza 'War'.  An article on the computer said, "warning, photos may be graphic".  Really?  Photos of killed and maimed  humans, old and young is considered 'graphic'?  Then let them show all the graphic photos they can.  Maybe, just maybe, everyone will realize the horrific stupidity of it all.  Replace the faces of those strangers with the faces of someone you know and love.  Feel the pain and shock of the victims families.  Oh how to stop this madness.................marge

multitasking

Just to appear smarter than the average (you pick), I looked up 'multitasking'.   It apparently is mainly referring to someone doing more than one thing at a time on the computer, that in itself  being beyond my comprehension.  Secondly, it refers to 'people skills'.   Sadly, or not so sadly, I am capable of only 'one tasking',  on the computer and more accurately in life in general.  If I'm holding a glass of water in one hand and a pill in the other, I'm most fortunate if the pill goes to my mouth first.  I know.  It seems like a mindless task, but it IS multitasking!  Have you never sat to put your shoes on and realized your socks are still in your lap? OR, snapped your jeans shut only to be reminded your fly is open?  More than single tasking is harder than one thinks!  Oh wait.  I have to put in a title and label...............................marge

950 am radio news station

I called radio am 950 today to suggest their broadcasters talked too fast when giving traffic and weather reports on the 8's.  I admitted to being a senior and speed from others is sometimes a handicap for me.  The person I talked to seemed to think I could become a better listener and not blame the persons giving the reports.  Oh to be young again,  or perhaps not...................marge

My daughter,  'the welder,' couldn't resist the challenge.  If the City of Birmingham can have a fake tree,  so can I, but  mine won't cost $30,000.  'Mom' bargaining power is a good thing.  Of course she will get my top dollar, say, under $200?  I've asked for a 'Charlie Brown tree'.  She'll be on it starting Monday.   If all goes as expected, plan on driving down Washington Blvd. in Birmingham in December.  And.......feel free to enjoy.......................marge

President Obama political signs

I will have an Obama sign in my yard.  It may not be a 'store bought' one but there will be one.  I 'm so disappointed in whomever is running his campaign in Michigan.  The other Democratic candidates signs are free for the asking at the sign place on Main St. in Royal Oak.  For the President's though, they are $10.00 apiece.  I live on a corner and prefer two.  I've donated via the internet several times to the Obama campaign.  I will NOT pay that much per sign.  I can afford it but I truly believe there are many Obama supporters who would find it a definite hardship.  Tell me please, what is wrong with this picture??................marge

Miracle creams?

I'm tired of all the ads for creams etc. to make someone looks 20 years younger.  They won't help me.  I need a cream that takes off say, forty years.  You may think you know why I say forty years, but you don't.  That's because most of you have no idea who 'Walter Pidgeon' is.  You see,  I have a face like Walter Pidgeon.  All the creams in the  world aren't going to help me.  AND, from now on, we won't use the word 'wrinkles'.  Never ever again.  Character lines.  I have character lines.  Remember that, if you ever approach and recognize me in public. If you don't, I think I can still deliver a good 'punch'...........marge

To arm or not to arm. That is the question.

Sean Combs and his gun toting followers can't be blamed for the Colorado movie premier massacre but surely,  It must give them food for thought.  I believe the NRA wouldn't even think that in any way could they have any responsibility.  But back to Sean and his defenders.  To what point did you prove the need to walk through a small town,  its city park and the local library, all where children were, with many loaded weapons, including an AK 47?   Did any residents in any of these places feel safer?  You better believe not.  Were they confused and frightened, you better believe YES.  Did you have the right?  Yes.  Did that mean it was the smart, intelligent thing to do?  That should be an easy question for you to answer.  It was for me........marge

'In' depth or 'no' depth reporting......

I tried contacting Channel 2 as they were interviewing Sean Combs on Thursday's 5 p.m. news.  I wanted to know if this young man, who feels so strongly about his Constitutional rights, was a registered voter.  Seemed like an important question.  When I did get an email reply, I was informed that he was '17' and therefore, couldn't vote.   Well Channel 2, if he isn't old enough to vote, he isn't legally old enough to openly or otherwise, walk around with a loaded weapon!  Today, after being shifted around by  phone, I left a message with my questions, name and phone number.  Several hours have passed.  I still haven't heard from anyone............marge.    Post script........As of 9 a.m. 7-16-2012, according to Troy Mi, City Clerk's office, Sean Combs' name did NOT come up as a registered voter...........marge

Legal listing

As I was leaving my Dr's. office the other day, I watched as an employee was measuring the height of a woman.  I pointed out the woman was wearing heels.  I had to.  When I was measured yet again this year, they tried to tell me that not only had I lost an inch on the previous visit, but another one this time.  I'm not happy with employees who keep trying to make me shorter.  There's no call for it.  And,, for the record, I can legally prove them wrong.  The State of Michigan has me listed as 5' 3" and there I shall stay.  Just check my drivers license..........marge

AK 47s on small town streets

At the June 11, 2012 meeting of the Birmingham, Mi. City Commission, A group of eight year olds with wooden rifles on their shoulders single filed into the room.  Oh wait.  They were GROWN men entering a public meeting place,  where all ages were in attendance, carrying loaded, we presume, sidearms, rifles and an AK 47.  Why?  Because one teenager recently decided to challenge the system by walking the local streets with his new rifle, loaded.  Did he cause concern? You betcha.  The police came.  Did the teen cooperate when stopped and questioned?  Apparently not.  And that is why these roaming men were parading the streets of Birmingham, to protest a stranger carrying a loaded rifle amongst all the downtown shoppers and walkers and refusing to show  identification.  I wonder if this Constitutionally minded teen is register to vote??  And yes.  The gun toters were given their free speech rights.  Its on camera folks!   .........marge

To sing or not to sing. That is the question.

I was watching a short commercial showing a singer on one of those singing contest shows.  I just don't comprehend the new way (to me) of singing.  Obviously its popular but not my cup of tea.  (I know, I'm showing my age).  Kate Smith, Perry Como, where are you?   I am convinced, by observation, that many of these vocalist, while performing,  are trying to show that they can A.,  have a baby or B.,  pass a kidney stone while standing and bending forward............marge

Channel 2 Detroit.

Again, at least one local news channel has chosen to remind the public that a terrible assault was committed, not by a real family member, according to them,  but an adopted family member.  What is your point??  An adopted child is not really yours?  People shouldn't adopt children because 'adopted' children are more apt to commit a violent crime?  Not giving actual birth to the child that is yours has absolutely no bearing on anything and should not be included in any story!  I truly believe you hurt so many good people by your thoughtless assessment of 'family'.........marge

Seriously.

I know where it goes and could do it in the dark. So why do I step in front of the mirror to apply deodorant? I may have mentioned it before but most of the people eating cereal in TV commercials seem to be left handed. Should be only 10%. Finally. I watch just a FEW soaps. They do a lot of crying in the 'soaps'. Have you yet to see anyone blowing their nose or wiping their eyes with a Kleenix, hanky or anything? I take that back. I do believe I've seen them use the back of their hand..........marge

I would have realized sooner had I been more observant. It is now painfully obvious that many football and hockey players are less mature than other sports figures. If one looks closely, most, if not all, have pacifiers in their mouths. Oh I'm sure they're not called by that name......but look for yourselves, you'll see.......marge

Winners, or, less losers........

I confess to not being knowledgable about major events such as The World Series, Super Bowl and Primary Delegates Conventions. The intrinsic aspects pretty much escape me. I am only left with these thoughts. Its not who wins the most. Its who loses the least. Thus enters Mitt Romney into my quandry. Congratulations on being ahead. Oh wait, make that, Congratulations on not being the most behind!..........marge

Men's professional sports vs breast feeding.

It is by some, unacceptable for a woman to discreetly breast feed her child outside the confines of her home. It appears however, acceptable for a ball player to intentionally slam into a catcher or second base player while trying to reach the plate or stop a double play. It also appears acceptable for a hockey play of considerable size and weight, to INTENTIONALLY body check with full force, an opposing skater into the sideboards. Don't even ask about football players and the cheap and dangerous shots THEY knowingly take. So tell me again why her behavior is less acceptable than all those 'wonderful' sports figures?........marge
